Cyclefit has joined Pearson Cycles in Sheen, London and have created two state of the art Cyclefit Studios above their boutique cycle store.
Pearson’s two technicians are Cyclefit accredited and thus provide the same comprehensive and rigorous bike fitting service that has been developed at Covent Garden over the last ten years.
The state of the art studios are fitted with the SICISizecycle for precise positional adjustment that incorporates real time pedalling analysis from Computrainer and Dartfish Motion Analysis to measure and record the rider’s metrics while in motion. However, Cyclefit has always believed that the training and skill of the bike fitter is more important than any technology; Cyclefit has spent many weeks in its fitting studios training their technicians providing more expertise and hands-on experience than any other ‘bike-fitting’ system currently offers.

If you have any ambition to ride a bike to the best of your ability this is where you need to start. A session at Cyclefit will opitmise your riding position eliminate niggles or help you decide on the bike that suits your requirements.
You will spend approximately two to three hours with one of our fit technicians.
The session begins with a discussion of the type of riding that you do – or that you’d like to be able to do – and ends with the measurements for your optimal bike position and with your shoes and cleats adjusted for maximum power, efficiency, and injury prevention.
To supplement our industry-leading experience at fitting cyclists for maximum comfort and performance, we use a CompuTrainer with SpinScan and Dartfish motion capture software.
You will spend most of the session on our Sizecycle, although you are welcome to bring your own bike with you, too, in which case up to 15 minutes of workshop time will be included at the end of the session to make adjustments according to our recommendations.
The information that you get to take away will include our observations and recommendations as well as all the measurements you need to set up any bike to your recommended position. (Other retailers will also be able to use to this information to determine what size frame you require if you are considering buying a bike elsewhere. We are unable to offer specific advice on frame sizing for brands that we do not supply.)
The CycleFit appointment takes up to three hours and is a very personal and considered appraisal of an individual's cycling physiology, technique and alignment. Everything about you as an individual is evaluated and assessed.
Your technician will want detailed information of how long, far and at what level you have cycled in the past, or if you are migrating from another sport altogether
We need to know your targets and goals. It affects (in consultation with you) how far your technician will compromise comfort for performance - e.g. You will most likely use a different position for an IronMan triathlon than you would use for a Sprint or Olympic event.
Your position should be right for every event and occasion.
We will be looking for underlying cause from your bike-position, set-up and history - we are not physios or osteos but can refer you to recommended colleagues wherever necessary and mutually agreed.

Cycling equipment is generally symmetrical and fixed - it is therefore the body that inevitably has to yield and change in respond in the interface process. Asymmetry in our own bodies exacerbates this process. A CycleFit will take account of these asymmeties and adjust the bike interface accordingly.
Particularly around hip/pelvis area and hamstrings - will affect fluidity of pedalling motion, posture and muscle-recruitment patterns. Posture can affect muscle recruitment, comfort and efficiency.
Can affect ability to hold good cycling posture, power transmission and stability of the pelvis as well as protecting the lower back from pain and injury.
Using spin-scan analysis we can build a picture of which muscles are being utilised in different sectors of the pedal-stroke
The most vital interface for power and comfort - In cycling the leg's kinetic chain is closed by the pelvis/saddle contact at one end and by the shoe/pedal interface at the other. Your technician will devote a large part of the session aligning and balancing your foot/cleat position. An optional custom molded footbed will be recommended for greater comfort, stability and power transfer.

This section should not have to exist at all but for a badly misconceived 'shrink and pink' approach by so many manufacturers to women's bikes and frames. In fact it is our opinion that women have been historically poorly served in general by an often myopic male-centric cycling industry. In contrast a CycleFit session is the same regardless of how many ribs you have - you are an individual and your position and set-up should reflect exactly that.
The shrink and pink attitude is often spectacularly misguided - for example when manufacturers arbitrarily decide to use steeper seat-angles on their women's frame designs, when in fact many women have proportionally longer femurs (in relation to torso length) than men so need slacker seat-angle to get an ideal relationship to the bottom-bracket and pedal-axles.
Thankfully the climate is slowly changing as many more women take up cycling and triathlon and are less inclined to compromise on comfort and performance. And many of the newer products such as saddles and handlebars do offer real ergonomic advantage to many riders.

If you are happy with your bike fit, but want to make sure your shoes are adjusted correctly for comfort, performance and injury prevention. Your Cyclefit Technician will measure the size of your feet, the varus or valgus tilt and advise on the correct shoe design (get £25.00 off the fee when you purchase new shoes).
Custom footbeds can be made for internal support and Wedges fitted if required. For fine tuning, please bring your bike.
If cycling is important to you then at some point you will make a decision whether your next bike will be built around a stock frame or whether you will have a custom frame tailoured to your unique bio-mechanics.
At Pearson Cyclefit we are unusual because over 80% of our bike builds are custom designed and conceived around an individual, and in that sense we are unashamedly partisan towards the philosophy of custom as an instrument to achieve perfection.

The vast majority of bikes and frames sold by manufacturers are 'stock' or preset in a range of sizes. Some manufacturers offer bikes in frames in a size run from XS (Extra Small) in a limited run(usually five sizes) to XL..etc. The 'stock' conundrum is not helped at all by the fact that manufacturers all measure their bikes in a different way so a Pearson '56' is nothing like a Serotta '56'. Or by the fact that most manufacturers have very little to say about how their products 'fit' or should be calibrated to the end user (you). When a manufacturer conceives a range of bikes they have no idea who the end user will be. They have to design a frame that will withstand someone who weighs 150 kgs but still feel good to someone who is 50kgs. Common sense should tell us this is implausible.
This where a criteria-specific stock frame is built into a complete bike using a groupset components that are selected to help achieve a more efficient and precise set-up. Bar-width/reach, crank-length, stem-length, saddle..etc should all be thoughtfully reviewed in this process. Much better by definition than stock but not quite 'full-custom' (below). For many shops this is the pinnacle of custom.
This means starting with a cyclist and a blank sheet of paper. A two hour Pearson CycleFit (or similar) bike-fitting session is used to both understand every detail of someone's cycling history, physiology and aspiration. The session painstakingly circles the final equilibrium of an individual's biomechanical perfection. After which an evaluation of possible bike manufacturers from our portfolio is considered and importantly frame materials and material combinations.
Stiffness, lightness, durability and aesthetics - steel, titanium, titanium/carbon and carbon are all discussed.
A draft of the custom frame and a CAD drawing are created to show the finished frame archicture.
The drafting process not only ensures that there is no compromise in terms of final position but also that there is perfect weight-distribution of the rider to guarentee perfect riding dynamics.

Sooo...I made it to Cannes - 1500Kn over 5.5 days...I had no injuries on the ride and I can honestly say that I think a vast majority of this was down to having the Cycle Fit.

"I am back following my epic? bike ride from SF to LA. I am pleased to say I did it all except for 2 miles on the last day when I got swept for having a puncture on a road where it wasn't safe to stop (high fences, no verges). I want particularly to report to you that Flash is an awesome bike. The days milages went 82, 108, 67, 98, 42, 84 and 61 which I achieved without back/shoulder aches or pains and without the need to visit the medical or massage tents (they were always full so many must have required their services!) I had minor pins and needles in 1 1/2 fingers of my left hand after - way less than before. Flash is absolutely the most comfortable bike I have ever had the pleasure of owning and riding, and the colour caused much voluntary comment; all good.
Its taken a while to get to a challenging workout to test the worth of the bike fit and custom build but I think I am a good postion now to assess it as worth every penny.
