The Cause

After the success of the 2010, 2011 & 2012 Pearson sportives, we aim to make the 2013 sportive even better!

The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign raises money to help the hospital stay at the leading edge of cancer treatment, research and care. It is a centre of excellence for cancer sufferers, helping people of all ages from all over the country. Cancer touches the lives of so many people and we at Pearsons owe a great debt to the Marsden for the treatent that Roger Pearson (4th generation of Pearson to run the business) received following diagnosis and in his final days battling this disease. Not only will you enjoy a fantastic day out, but you will also be raising money for this cause through your entry.

New for the 2013 Event

  • New and improved route markers
  • New route into Brighton - fewer stops = quicker times!
  • Increased donation to the Royal Marsden
  • 1000 entries now available
  • Speedy registration at HQ
  • Marshalling points at strategic points on course
  • Another feed/watering stop for the longer route
  • The Routes

    150km

The Pearson 150 route will take you south through the lanes of Surrey and Sussex, taking in the climbs of the North and South downs, followed by a swift descent to the half way marker at Brighton. There you can take in the sea air and refuel. The second half of the route will take you north again, riding through exquisite undulating scenery to the finish. Timing chips will be clocked in and results instantly available.

A map of the 150km route can be found here.

    75km

The Challenge route is 75km through leafy lanes in Surrey, taking in some of the easier ascents in the North Downs. The halfway mark will be just on the borders of Sussex where the ride turns for home via a refuelling point and more beautiful lanes en route. Again, timing chips will be collected at the end and results will be immediately available.

A map of the 75km route can be found here.

    Cyclosport 75km Review

The final challenge started with the long slow climb up Box Hill, getting steeper and steeper towards the end. Once at the top and a twisty descent it was the last little kick up to Tatennham Corner at Epsom.

    Happy Competitors

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say a big thanks to you and all your team at Pearson for a top day on Sunday. When things run smoothly it normally means a large amount of time has gone into the organisation. The route was excellent – we struggled to remember a flat section or any prolonged main road time – and well signposted throughout. The feed stations were great – we had expected gels and water; the cake, banana and cereal bars were very welcome. The weather of course was outside of your control, but I suppose the headwinds going South added to the challenge and the heavy showers refreshed us. I hope you raised a healthy amount for the Royal Marsden.

I did the Sportive on Sunday and did the 75km route. Just wanted to say a really big thank you for organising it, I thought it was superb and I had a really great ride. It was well sign posted and a great course. Cheers, John.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for organising the Pearson 75 yesterday. The route was superb and the organisation of the event not only brilliantly efficient but incredibly friendly and encouraging too. Great cause too. My first time but will definitely sign up for more. Peter P

Great day thanks for a fantastic day, very well organised. - Daniel Campbell

I just wanted to thank you all for such a well organised 75 km event last Sunday. The staff were all brilliant. You have been servicing my bike today. As this was my first such event at the age of 65, you probably noticed how it felt the pain as much as I did! Thanks so much to the whole team, and the work they have done for this charity. Bruce
